About HPV Testing
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection and a leading cause of cervical cancer. Garden OB/GYN offers HPV testing as a key part of your cervical cancer prevention plan. Early detection of high-risk HPV strains allows your provider to monitor you closely and take action before any abnormal cells develop into something more serious.
What to Expect
HPV testing is performed alongside or instead of a Pap smear, using the same quick, comfortable cervical sample collection. Results identify whether you carry high-risk HPV strains that are associated with cervical cancer. If you test positive, your provider will explain what it means, discuss monitoring options, and recommend follow-up testing or a colposcopy if needed.
Who Is This For?
Women ages 30 and older as part of routine cervical screening, and women of any age with abnormal Pap smear results. HPV vaccination is recommended for young women and men to prevent infection.
